Ng Andrew First Post - Self Intro and a Definition

My name is Andrew Ng, a current student enrolled in the BS-MS program for Architectural and Civil Engineering with a focus in structures. As I am interested in pursuing a career in structural design of infrastructure, the course AE 510 is relevant to me. The course, to my understanding, focuses on the innovation of the building process using machinery. Improvements may include potentially improving, expediting and decreasing expenses in construction. However, this concept may be far-fetched as of right now in my opinion. Perhaps in a century, development of the machinery can be make the use of robotics/AI feasible, but right now I'm thinking that companies are reluctant to change as they are already familiar with current methods in building. This is like asking people to explore and leave their "niche". Only when the new methods are feasible, would companies start considering using them to gain the competitive edge over other companies. Using robotics may also be very expensive as of right now so research in minimizing the cost of making the machines and maintenance of them will have to be completed before it can actually make it into the industry.

My initial definition for "Intelligent Buildings" would be: the incorporation of technology in building processes. The technological aspect in building would make it "intelligent" as machines should alleviate "human chores/work".
