Group Project
For this project, Sam Kim and I will be working together to create our Senior Design Project in Revit. We chose this project because doing this should give us a very good understanding of Revit in addition to helping our senior design project. Our project consists of designing an indoor water and wastewater pilot plant with additional classroom space on campus. Our location is at the corner of 30th St and Chestnut, building on top of where there is currently a parking lot. Our goals for the AE 410 project is to have the building's foundation, structure, and architectural elements all modeled. We would also like to have the necessary equipment, piping, and HVAC modeled as well.
This project is related to intelligent design because our senior design project is very complicated. The best way to design our structure is to use a tool like Revit. We have been able to design floor plans in AutoCAD, but we have realized that trying to create a 3D model of the structure in AutoCAD is next to impossible due to the fact that no one in our group is that proficient with AutoCAD.
By attempting this project, we should be able to see where Revit excels and where there will be problems. We are going to document the process to ensure that when issues arise we will attempt to find solutions and learn how to better model in Revit. We do see some challenges ahead, like trying to manage all of the piping and HVAC within the model. Not to mention that both Sam and myself have not worked with Revit before this class.

Prahlad Singh: That is a very interesting topic, drones in construction. I too was intrigued when we discussed it at the beginning of the term. I hope your research paper provides some good insight on what we may see at future job sites.
Chris Sager: I like your idea of trying to import and export models from Revit to AECOsim and back again. It will be interesting to see what kinds of problems arise when doing this kind of work. This would be especially useful for two firms who are using different software.
Rachel Frank: As most of the topics have been, yours is also very interesting. As someone who is planning on going into the construction management field, robotic assembly and construction is a particularly intriguing topic. I am excited to hear where you think this field will be going after doing research into where it started from and where it currently is.
